Dear Ms.Palomo

Dear Ms.Palomo,
Thank you for improving my writing skills this year.
You have been a really awesome teacher, especially with your kindness upon all of us.
You also have this special "power" that my favorite teacher had. It makes lessons much more enjoyable.
Once again, thank you for teaching me in GLPS 16! Even if years pass, I'll never forget this summer.

Super 8

     "Thump... Thump... Thump..." Your heart is racing. You can feel something coming closer and closer. Then, just as you're about to escape, everything starts to explode. It feels so realistic that you can easily imagine yourself being in that scene.
  
     These are some of the thrills that you can experience while watching the amazing movie- Super 8. Directed by J.J. Abrams, Super 8 is an once-in-a-life-time movie, filled with thrills.

     The basic storyline of this movie is set in the U.S, 1979. The first scene shows Joe, the main character depressed at the loss of his mother. His friends decides to do cheer him up by continuing on the movie they had been making. They decided to film it at a train station at dawn. That's when the trouble starts. Just as they start filming, they sight a car crashing into a cargo train that was coming by. This is followed by explosions, and almost kills all five kids. This day was a day that would change the kids' lives forever.
Mysterious things starts to happen the very next day. People starts to vanish, and the kids becomes even more worried...

     I will not spoil this amazing movie. Instead, I'll share my opinion on the movie. Even though it could be a bit frightening for some people, it has an almost happy ending. Other than that, the movie has actors that are perfect for the parts. It also has a unique kind of graphic. But, the things I learnt weren't really about the movie. It was about friendship. In the movie, it shows how powerful a group of friends can be. After watching this, I learnt how important my friends were and started to treat them with more respect.
That is why I think this movie is so awesome.

Ode To My Brother

Teddy's Adventure In Honey World

     In a dense forest faraway, there was a furry honey-loving bear called Teddy. One rainy day, Teddy decided to take a walk on the forest path. Teddy bounced around on a pile of crunchy leaves for a few hours.Just then, his leg slipped into the leaves, and before he knew it, he had fallen into a deep hole. When Teddy looked up, he could see a tiny bit of the sky. "Oh no!" whined Teddy. After a while, he decided to look around the tunnel full of holes. He went into the hole that looked the least darkest since he was really frightened of the dark. Just then he saw a glint of glowing light. When he went closer, he could see that it was a golden vase full of sweet-smelling honey! Teddy lunged forward, eager to taste the honey- But, just as he stuck his head into the vase, he felt himself falling down a tunnel.

     After a few minutes of enternal darkness, he came face to face with a vast field covered with honey. Teddy screamed in delight and jumped into a fountain, and took a swim inside the gooey honey. After a while, he found a SUV made out of honey candy. He jumped in, and started driving. He kept driving until he arrived at a mansion covered with honey. A plump, orange furred bear came out of the mansion. "Welcome to the honey world!" said the bear. Teddy held up his hands in greeting. Then, he jumped into the mansion filled with honey.

     Two years later, Teddy had become an oversized bear. His tummy was the size of five pigs put together. He was sleeping on his honey-brownie bed, when his friend, Telly, came into his room. "Hello." Telly spoke with an evil grin on his face. Teddy, who could not see Telly's face because of his own stomach, answered,
"What's up." Suddenly, Telly grostequely transformed into a gigantic bee! After taking one look at the bee, Teddy ran out of the mansion. He quickly jumped on a honey-cake-bus that was zooming by. Then suddenly, millions of bees started pouring out of the mansion. The droning of the bees filled Teddy's ears. Teddy had no choice but to jump off of the bus. Just then, Teddy spotted a golden vase. It was the same one that he had stuck his head into two years earlier! Without thinking, Teddy tried to squeeze in. But Teddy was too big! The bees were coming closer.... Then, just as a bee was about to sting Teddy, he felt himself falll into total darkness.

     Teddy was back into his own forest. He ean to his home screaming "Mom, mom! I've been gone for 2 years!" His mother told him to calm down. "You've only been out for 2 hours!". Teddy was confused. He decided to take a walk again. Just then, he spotted a golden vase full of honey........

My First Day In Hokkaido

     "Passengers flying on plane 787 ANA Airlines, please board the plane now." the speaker announced.
As I boarded the plane, I felt really excited at the prospect of going to a 3-day trip to Hokkaido- also known as the Kingdom of Snow. As the plane soared across the broad sky, I looked outside the window and saw a magnificent sight. There were fluffy patches of clouds spread around the sky.

     After about 1 hour and 30 minutes later, the plane touched down onto the landing strip. The first thing that automatically met my eyes were the heaps of snow piled around the buildings. My brother and I were very eager to get to play with the snow. So, as soon as we got out of the Sapporo Airport, we started a snowball fight. Even though we both got hit quite a few times, it didn't hurt at all since the snow felt like fluffy white powder. Anyway, we had to stop since we were running late on our travel schedule. My parents quickly rented a car, and we drove off to our first destination, Kushiro Volcano. On the way there, all I saw was snow. It was as if the whole world was covered in a white blanket!

 

     When we arrived at the volcano, the pile of snow came up to our knees! That's why we had to trudge along a narrow bridge that went over the pile of snow and  on to a wooden lodge house. We warmed up for a bit. Then, we decided to start hiking up the mountain path.

    The snow wasn't as deep as it was near the lodge, but it was still hard to walk. But that didn't disturb me at all since I was too amazed at the snow capped mountains, looming above us like giants. Just then, an humongous snowstorm came whizzing past us, and we decided that it would be best if we turn back. When we were settled in the car, our father drove us to an ancient looking ramen shop. The shop didn't look really convincing from the outside, but in the inside, it was really luxurious. After we had a heart-warming bowl of ramen for dinner, we decided to find our hotel and stay inside for the rest of the day. It took as about 2 hours to arrive at the hotel, and by then, I had half fainted from cold. But I was restored back to my full health when I warmed myself  up in the hot spring.

     My first day in Hokkaido was really exciting. The whole world felt different because of the snow. It was also quite amazing to get to taste a new sort of ramen.

     It had been a tiring day, but everything that I had seen and tasted today paid back for my tiredness.

March 10th 2011

     One sunny day in March, I was in school with my classmates, writing on our blogs in the computer lab. Just as our teacher was announcing a new topic, one of my classmates screamed, "The building is moving!" None of us felt the shaking for about a few seconds. But suddenly, it felt as if I was on a boat that was in a storm. Before I knew what was happening, keyboards started to fall down. "Duck and cover!" our teacher shouted over the deafening noise. Everyone quickly went under their desks. There were screaming as our teacher tried to keep everyone calm. Then, as quickly as it had started, the shaking ended.

     An announcement came over the PA system. Our principal told everyone that there had been an earthquake, and since a tsunami could reach our school (our school was right next to the sea), everybody on the first floor should quickly evacuate to higher floors. Everyone else was to stay under desks.

     After the announcement, there was complete silence except for a few sniffling coming from kids who had been crying from fright.  Then, a babble of talk broke out. "What happened?"
"Earthquake?" "What!" But, everyone grew silent as the ground started shaking. Even though it wasn't as strong as the last one, it was still really frightening.
    
     We were sent back to our homes. My mom came to pick me and my brother up. She was really worried. When we arrived home, we could see that our neighbors had opened their doors, so that they could escape if the earthquake happened again.

     This is basically what I had felt during the Sendai Earthquake on March 10th, 2011. Yes, it wasn't that frightening, but it still came as a great shock to me. I hope nothing like this happens ever again.

My Life In Japan

     Have you ever thought about how living in Japan is like? If you want to find out about my life in Japan, keep reading this blog post.

     When I was 7 years old, I left Korea and went to Japan because of my father's job. When I first arrived in Japan, everything seemed strange and different from Korea. But as time passed, I got used to the culture and the language.
 

     One of the things I like about Japan is its food. When I first came to Japan, I thought that the Japanese sweet and salty sort of taste was strange, but like everything else about Japan, I got used to it pretty soon.  My favorite Japanese food is sushi, rice wrapped with raw fish. The Japanese have a special way of making sushi with a variety of different ingredients. The Japanese sushis also have a very unique 

textures.

  

     I don't really know much about Japanese people since I've never been to a Japanese school. Instead, I go to an international school in Kobe. There is alot of artificial islands in Kobe. In fact, I live on one!

Another thing that Kobe's famous for is the Kobe Tower, the highest

building in Kobe. Once when I went up to the top floor, I saw my

apartment building, even though it was 22 kms away!

     For me, these are these reasons are why living in Japan is so exciting.
